ΑEGINA, SAINT NEKTARIOS, SAINT MINAS
Check out early in the morning with the boat to Aegina.
We will worship at the Monastery of Saint Nektarios, the most important religious monument on the island.
In St. Trinity Monastery, Saint Nektarios stayed for 13 years, and after his death, on 9 November 1920, he was buried there just outside the Church and under the shade of a pine tree he had planted himself.
The tomb and its holy relics, which are kept in the monastery, are a pan-Hellenic religious pilgrimage. Just under the old monastery is built an imposing temple, dedicated to its memory, which is one of the largest in Greece and the Balkans.
Continuing, we will visit the coastal Agia Marina and then we will worship the Holy Monastery of Agios Minas near the ancient temple of Aphaia Athena. The homonymous women’s monastery was founded in 1952, but the first idea for its foundation was the newly-formed Saint Nektarios. Finally there will be time for a walk in the port of Aegina. Arrive late in the afternoon.
